Board Member Information
This form provides basic information about what Impromptu Classical Concerts expects from its Board members. If you have doubts about your ability to commit the necessary time, attend scheduled meetings, or comply with these requirements, please advise the nominating committee before they submit your name for consideration.
Mission and Goals : To bring the very best classical music performed by world class artists and ensembles at the lowest possible price to Key West and the Keys.
Code of Behavior:
- Be committed to the mission of Impromptu Classical Concerts
- Act in a manner consistent with the mission of Impromptu Classical Concerts
- Focus efforts on the mission of Impromptu Classical Concerts not personal goals
- Accept responsibility and share power in order to work as a productive, cooperative member of the Board
- Avoid conflicts of interest between position as a board member and personal and professional life
- Support all actions taken by the Board regardless of personal feelings
- Never exercise authority as a board member except when in a board meeting or when directed/delegated by the board
- Keep confidential matters confidential
- Be accountable to the membership for competent, conscientious and effective accomplishment of the objectives and obligations of the board
- Ensure that discrimination is never practiced
- Attend meetings consistently, prepare for meetings, participate fully and fulfill all fiduciary obligations to Impromptu Classical Concerts
Term of Office: Two (2) years.
Fund Raising: All board members are expected to participate in any fund raising activities authorized by the Boards. In addition, all board members are expected to make an annual contribution that is personally meaningful. This can be in the form of a monetary donation, time, or labor.
Time Requirements: Attendance at board meetings, committee meetings, concerts and special events, to include preparation time, generally amounts to 60 hours per year. Full participation is expected from all board members. In addition, new board members are strongly urged to attend the CFFK Leadership Success Academy .
Board Meetings: The full board meets at least seven times per year, usually on the third Thursday of each month, November-May, from 5-6 pm

Committees: Each board member must serve on the Operations Committee and at least one of the following committees - Program Selection, Financial, Correspondence, Advertising/Marketing/Communications or Document Retention. Committees meet at the pleasure of the chairs in order to accomplish tasks directed by the board within the time allotted.
Orientation Sessions: There is a one to two hour orientation session for new board members conducted by the nominating committee.
Selection Process:
- Prospective board members are identified by current board members.
- Prospective members are given this information package, a copy of the Bylaws and a membership application to be submitted to the Executive Committee.
- The Executive Committee compares the strengths and abilities of the applicant against the requirements and needs of Impromptu Concerts.
- While the primary requirement for membership is a passionate desire to participate in bringing the best classical music at the most affordable price possible to the Key West community - there are times when specific capabilities are required for the proper accomplishment of the organizations mission.
- Upon recommendation by the Executive Committee, the name of the applicant is placed on the agenda of the next board meeting for a vote by the membership.
- A new member must be elected to the Board by a majority vote of the members.
